The Minister of Finance, Ervin Mete, has signed a financing agreement with the Vice President of the World Bank, Mrs. Antonella Bassani, for the “Clean and sustainable environment for the Blue Sea” project.
The World Bank will provide 80 million dollars to fund the project, which has the clear objective of reducing pollution in the water environment (seas, rivers) in the southwestern area. This is in line with the sustainable development of tourism.
The project is divided into three components. The first part deals with the promotion of an integrated and circular approach to the protection of the environment and water resources.
The second part of the project will reduce pollution in the Vjosa River. This will be done within the framework of its further support and protection, after the granting of the “National Park” status, as the last wild river in Europe. The project will expand the cleaning infrastructure, improve it further, and prevent pollution.
The third part of the project is about management, monitoring and evaluation. It will run until March 2029.
